In the seventh novel in Sala's romantic adventure series set in Blessings, Georgia, the small town weathers an attempted murder, a field trip that nearly ends in tragedy, and a devastating hurricane. Junior and Albert Rankin are selling marijuana to a new customer who wants them to kill an elderly potential witness, Elliot Graham, who is painting near their patch. Junior hits Elliot, but he is found and taken to a hospital. Patty falls down a ravine on a second-grade field trip and is left for dead by bullies before she is rescued by her brother's dog and Dan Amos, her mother's friend and Elliot's neighbor. After the storm, Dan invites Elliot to stay in his generator-powered mansion along with Patty, her brother, and their mother, Alice. While cooped up in the house, Dan and Alice admit their love, then after the hurricane passes, other residents struggle with injuries and worse. Sala dramatizes serious situations and lots of action, along with an appealing small-town romance. Multiple story lines and characters can be hard to follow in the latest in an otherwise strong series. Fans of Robin Carr may also enjoy these.--Amy Alessio Copyright 2019 Booklist
